The mother nourishes and brings up the baby by providing nutrition and healthy diet from the time the baby is an infant until such time that the child grows up to be an adult. For all mothers especially the mothers of the young ones, awareness of nutrition, diet and health of the children is very useful and important.

For all of us our teeth are very important assets. When in case of children, the oral hygiene and dental health to maintain this asset intact is very important. Since they are very young and cannot take care of their dental health, the responsibility again falls on the mothers to supervise and ensure healthy habits are inculcated.

The dental health of a child and the diet are interrelated. The diet contributes to the dental health in a major way. If the teeth have to be strong and the gums health, then the diet should consist of sufficient vitamins and calcium that aid in the growth of teeth. So mothers should necessarily include dairy products and milk in the daily diet of their children. Strong foundation laid in the early years will help maintain a good dental set life long.

Children's teeth as well as gums are highly susceptible to caries and infections. This happens due to several reasons. In most cases the infections occur due to the poor oral hygiene that is maintained while in some others the quality of teeth makes them susceptible to infections. The kind of food that they consume is another important element that contributes to the dental decay.

Don't all children love eating chocolates and candies. The sugar and starch contained in various sweets are the main culprits affecting the teeth in children.Parents should always control and avoid giving children food that contains too much of sugar. It is better to give them fruits and other healthy alternatives instead of sweets. Keep away the children from getting into the habit of snacking on sweets, candies, soft drinks and other items which contain processed sugars in them.

Every mother should choose the diet for her children keeping in mind two important factors.First and foremost to provide sufficient and balanced nutrition to the child to help his growth. Secondly to avoid sweets and snacks and replace them with healthy fruits and other alternatives.

There should be parental focus on teaching children to brush and to clean their mouth and gargle after eating food so that the food particles do not rot and cause bacteria to get accumulated. An annual dental checkup by the pediatric dentist is a must for every child.
